Here at Hearing Associates of Las Vegas, we are naturally excited to celebrate World Hearing Day on March 3, 2019, since we are all about promoting better hearing!

History Of World Hearing Day

World Hearing Day was originally called International Ear Care Day when it was first established in 2007 by the Office of Prevention of Blindness and Deafness, which is an arm of the World Health Organization (WHO).

World Hearing Day wasn’t just established to bring awareness to hearing loss. Instead, the WHO and others wanted to bring awareness through hosting activities and sharing information on hearing loss prevention as well as ways for people to learn about improving their hearing health care.

For the 2019 World Hearing Day, the theme is, “Check your hearing.” This theme was chosen as this year’s emphasis because studies have shown that people tend to wait between 5-10 years before seeking any kind of treatment for their hearing loss. During this intervening time, mild hearing loss can impair many aspects of a person’s life, as well as worsen over time as the hearing loss goes unmanaged.

What You Should Do For World Hearing Day

As it may be a little late to launch your own World Hearing Day event in support of improved hearing, there are other things you can do to celebrate this important day.

• Come have your hearing tested at one of our hearing clinics!
• Talk to a loved one about hearing loss and your concerns for them.
• Share this post to raise awareness!

You also may want to check out the new app launched by WHO called the HearWHO app. It will launch on World Hearing Day, so be ready to download it so you can periodically screen your hearing. How To Take Care Of Your Hearing Throughout The Year

Our hearing is essential all year round, not just on World Hearing Day. If you are looking for more ways to take better care of your hearing, you can:

• Schedule annual hearing evaluations, especially if you are over 50 years old.
• Listen to your entertainment at less than 60% of the max volume available.
• Use the proper hearing protection when attending loud events or activities.
